In Memory of Diane Maas

Diane (Cats) Maas passed away on April 22, 2026, surrounded by her husband of 41 years, Mark, and her three devoted children: Jenny, Alex, and Daniel, along with his wife, Holly.

Diane, who tested positive for the gene mutation BRCA, faced a terminal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer with remarkable strength, determination, and her signature devilish sense of humor. Upon learning about her diagnosis, she simply gave a wry smile and a light-hearted “I am toast.” 

A lifelong lover of East Asian art and culture, Diane built a meaningful career as Director of Education at the Asia Society, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Rubin Museum. She had a deep appreciation for the world’s cultures and a curiosity that carried her across the globe.

Her greatest joy was her family, especially her newly minted grandchildren, Zoe and Jacob, who brought her endless pride and happiness. 

Diane will be remembered for her warmth, intellect, humor, and the way she showed up for the people in her life. She was, simply, a mensch.
