Pancreatic Cancer Risks Factors and Screening
Our first webinar of the year with our partner the National Alliance for Hispanic Health’s Nuestra Voces program focused on risk factors and screening.
Our first webinar of 2025 focused on Risk Factors and Screening for pancreatic cancer. It was held on Wednesday, March 12th at 2 p.m. Eastern and featured oncologist Dr. Raymond Wadlow and patient advocate Andy Lyons, discussing risk factors, screening programs, and how these programs can lead to earlier diagnosis. The moderator was Juan Pellerano-Rendon, a pancreatic cancer advocate who lost his mother to the disease.

Researchers are working to find ways to diagnose pancreatic cancer. One research focus is screening for people at higher risk. These risk factors have been identified as a family history of the disease, genetic mutations that make someone more likely to develop cancer, and certain medical conditions, including chronic pancreatitis, some types of pancreatic cysts, and new onset diabetes. Screening programs for people who have these risk factors are catching the cancer in earlier, more treatable stages.
