Listen to the Patient
Michael Whalen’s internist agreed to order a pancreas scan even though he did not think Michael had cancer.
The scan showed a tumor and possible lesions on the liver. After a biopsy, Michael was advised to forget about chemotherapy because it would not help. With the support of his daughter, an internist, Michael went to a local oncologist who took an more optimistic view. The chemo shrunk the tumor and Michael was able to have surgery to remove the tumor.
