Health Matters: An Option for Pancreatic Cancer

It’s a common diagnosis. Studies show Florida has the third highest incidence of pancreatic cancer in the country.

“Survivals are better marginally than they have been in the past but we have a long, long way to go,” said Dr. Mark Bloomston, a surgical oncologist on the medical staff of Lee Health.

Doctors are hopeful that a new clinical trial will help to improve survival rates. “Patients who are seeking out this trial have been told that they have inoperable disease from various sources, so this gives us an opportunity as well to reevaluate that and perhaps some of these patients who have been told they have no hope, actually do have hope,” said Dr. Bloomston.
