Let’s Win Launches Online Video Series Featuring Long-Term Pancreatic Cancer Survivors

Survivor series intro

The Survivor Series for Pancreatic Cancer debuted at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium.

Let’s Win, an initiative supported by the Lustgarten Foundation, launched the Let’s Win! Pancreatic Cancer Survivors video series Friday, January 19, 2018, at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium. The new online video series, featuring long-term pancreatic cancer survivors of all ages and diverse backgrounds, has been created to show pancreatic cancer patients and their families that people do survive this disease. The survivors have responded exceptionally well to pancreatic cancer therapy that incorporates clinical trials and treatments that go beyond traditional protocols.

When patients are first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, they often turn to the internet, only to find devastating and frightening statistics about the disease. “Our goal is to provide hope and inspiration to patients and their families,” says Cindy Gavin, Founding Executive Director of Let’s Win. “We are so grateful for the incredible vision of one special patient and the generosity of The Flora Family Foundation for their support of this incredible initiative.”

“Let’s Win! Pancreatic Cancer Survivors is an illustration of the entire mission of Let’s Win—to enable patients and physicians to share potentially life-saving pancreatic cancer treatments and clinical trials. The goal of this video series is to provide hope to patients and families that there are effective therapies that can bring positive long-term outcomes,” says Let’s Win co-founder Allyson Ocean, M.D., a pancreatic cancer specialist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. “Through the Let’s Win online community, we are collecting the stories of survivors and disseminating their treatment information so that others can potentially benefit. The patients in this video series highlight the benefits of enrolling in clinical trials and research-backed protocols that we hope will one day soon lead to better pancreatic cancer therapies for everyone.”

Each month a new video introduces a survivor and shares their journey. The series kicks off with a montage of the patients who will be featured in each of the monthly installments. The videos will reside on the Let’s Win website, and will be distributed on Let’s Win’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms and via the feeds of Let’s Win partners and supporters. In this way survivors’ stories will reach as broad an audience as possible.

“As a patient-centric platform, Let’s Win seeks to uplift as well as inform, said Cindy Gavin. “Telling the stories of long-term survivors is a powerful strategy for offering hope to those with the disease. It also gives us an opportunity to recognize those researchers and clinicians doing cutting-edge and often unheralded work.”
